Artwork & Printing - What you need to know...
To avoid all the potential pitfalls below, DS Design is able to provide print ready designs- which will save you time and money. So from design to print management we have the solution. DS Design always provides your files print ready and has the experience in the industry to avoid any potential printing issues. If you do however have your artwork already designed we are also happy to take on any print only jobs, if this is the case please take on board the points below;
System & Software we accept
At DS Design we use the latest Apple computers and Software possible. Running Adobe Creative Suite 3 - including; Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat (PDF), Indesign, Dreamweaver, Flash and Fireworks.
Quark express 6.5, and Microsoft Office - we do accept lower file formats, and can also convert to any formats you require.
Microsoft Software
Although we will accept Microsoft documents, they are not print ready applications and therefore may inccur an extra design fee. Before printing we will need a hard copy of your artwork in this case. WE DO NOT ACCEPT THE FOLLOWING FILE FORMATS FOR PRINTING- Powerpoint, Corel Draw, Paint, Pagemaker.

DS Design recommend that you compress file attachments using Stuffit, this reduces the file size and helps to preserve the date and reduces the liklihood of the file corrupting during the sending process.
Images & Supplied Artwork
Please ensure all artwork is supplied in the software listed as acceptable above. If you supply in other formats there may be a delay in production. Please supply your print ready files as CMYK or GREYSCALE TIFF, we do not accept RGB as printable images. RGB is suitable only for web image files only. Macintosh format, without LZW compression. All scans of images must be 360dpi, be careful when scanning previously printed artwork, you should use your scanners descreening settings. Please do not expect to use low res images downloaded straight from the internet besides anything else you could be infringing copyright laws, the images will not come out as expected when we go to print anyhow.
Fonts
Please supply or embed all fonts used in your artwork. We cannt use fonts that have been modified in the measurements bar in Quark Express. Please ensure all fonts are (P) Plain, - DONT USE PSEUDO FONTS .
Quark and Indesign Documents
3mm Bleed if colour or image goes to the edge of the document, all colours must be CMYK or PANTONE. If you use RGB the colours will need to be converted the CMYK or PANTONE and this will mean the colours will change in density and in some cases can look totally different to that expected. Please ensure that all images are EPS or TIFF format. All images must be within 70% - 140% or original size. Please make sure all fonts and images wihint the artwork are supplied and fonts converted to outline. The best practice is to "collect for output" within the Quark express menu, or to convert the Quark or Indesign file to a print ready PDF.
Illustrator EPS Files
All fonts must be converted to paths/outlines. Ensure all images and colours are CMYK or PANTONE.
Print Ready PDF
Created in CMYK or PANTONE colour, with all fonts mbedded, high resolution. 3mm bleed if required. All printers marks and document set to actual size please.
Proofing
It is important that you check your proof or arwork throughly. Check spelling, content and colour. The job will then be expected to be signed off before printing in the form of a confirmation email from yourself. We do not accept responsibiltiy for errors found after final approval.
